SILVERSTONE CLASSIC: tribute to Jim Clark

SILVERSTONE’S three day Classic in July is to stage a special tribute to racing legend Jim Clark.

It’s 45 years since the fastest farmer in the world lost his life in a meaningless Formula 2 race at Hockenheim, but his memory lingers on, and those who appreciate the sublime skills he brought to the sport will be eager to pay their respects to the two times world champion at the Northants track, where he won the last of his five British Grand Prix wins in 1967.

Now firmly established as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, the Silverstone Classic powered by the AA features an unrivalled number of star cars covering the full spectrum of motor sport history.

Other highlights of this year’s event, from July 26-28, include a record programme of 24 races featuring more than 1,000 entries including historic F1, GT, GpC, sportscars and touring cars; a special parade of 911 Porsche 911s to mark the 50th anniversary of the world’s most successful sportscar; and celebrations to mark Aston Martin’s centenary and 50 years of Lamborghini.

The world famous Silverstone Classic is renowned for its vast array of off-track entertainment and 2013’s event will provide more family attractions than ever before with 7,000+ classic cars, aerobatic displays, live demonstrations and superb live music from classic bands including The Hollies and Stars from the Commitments plus some of the world’s top tribute bands.

The spectacular three-day event, firmly established as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, features the very best of historic racing covering more than eight decades of motor sport as well as live music from classic rock bands and a wealth of family entertainment including free fun fair, retail outlets, a host of interactive activities and air displays, plus huge showcases of classic cars.

It’s promoted and organised by Goose Communications. Goose manages worldwide events for organisations such as AstraZeneca, Bacardi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Unilever.
