LAST year there was just the one – now KGM have doubled the choice if you’re considering their rather smart Actyon SUV.
As well as the launch model’s 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine, you’ve now got the option of a dual tech 130 kW hybrid system, coupling that petrol unit with a responsive electric motor, which should boost its appeal to business users.
There’s not a lot of difference in price – £38,649 for the standard 1.5, £38,995 for the hybrid – the latter offering a bit more impetus with 173bhp and 221 lb/ft of torque boosted by that hybrid system.
It’s all delivered with a remarkable level of aural restraint that is commendable considering the overall size of Actyon. It’s 4.74 metres long which means your towbar will probably not quite make it into a regular parking space.
Actyon is a major shift for KGM, the first in a line of tidy looking new products over the next couple of years, moving it further away from SsangYong’s worthy but fairly dull design direction.
Actyon was the first all new KGM to hit the UK after the SsangYong name was consigned to history in a couple of years ago.
Roughly the same dimensions as a Skoda Kodiaq it takes up its fair share of road. It’s quite long, quite wide and quite tall, but that equates to decent interior space for you and your family.
The boot is a decent size at 550 litres, but the shape is long and narrow rather than square and deep.
There’s a decent mix of luxury and comfort throughout, with a premium level of fit and finish so the family buyer looking for a highly specced and roomy SUV should have a look around it.
It’s sleek, coupe-style design with 20-inch diamond cut alloy wheels features distinctive dynamic daytime running lights that apparently are inspired by the four iconic trigrams of the Korean flag.
In front of you is KGM’s four cornered steering wheel, its wider design giving a clearer view of the instrument cluster, as well as new quick-access buttons and customisable “favourites” settings to allow you to quickly access commonly used functions.
It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual zone air con and a 12.3 inch screen that at times can be difficult to distinguish in bright sunlight.
On the safety side, Actyon is equipped with a whole host of advanced driver-assistance systems and includes 3D 360 degree ‘surround view’ monitoring to help with parking. There are eight airbags (front, side, curtain, knee and even a seat centre one) and autonomous emergency braking, land keep assist, lane departure warning, rear blind spot detection and rear cross traffic warning. Should help avoid a few dents and near misses.
